Anthony holds workout with Pacers

Anthony’s marathon of individual continued as he worked out for the Indiana Pacers, owners of the 11th pick in the draft, yesterday in Indy. Anthony spoke with Pacers.com afterwards.

Q. Was this a late decision to come in here and how did it come about?
A. “It wasn’t a late decision. I’ve been talking to the Indiana Pacers off and on and they wanted to come see me. Every team that wants to see me I’m going to try and make an effort to come and work out in front of them.”

Q. Your name has been much higher in the draft than where the Pacers pick. Do you have an expectation on where you think you will be picked?
A. “Anywhere from 2 to 10. This draft is a toss-up after the second pick. Anywhere between there, hopefully.”

Q. It sounds like a no-lose proposition, 2 to 10. It feels like it doesn’t really matter then, because you’re in good shape either way?
A. “No, it doesn’t really matter. I feel wherever I go to, I hope I go to the right spot. I’m just going to try to come in and play hard.”

Q. Potential is a word that gets used a lot in association with your name with physical ability and that sort of thing. How ready do you feel you are to help an NBA team right away?
A. “I think I’m ready. I’ve put in the work since I’ve been out of school. (I’ve been) working on my shot, extending my shot to the NBA three-point line, ball-handling and everything. I think I can come in and contribute early.”

Q. Do you think the three-point shot is something that you really need to show scouts, that they want to find out about your other things in workouts that you want to show them?
A. “Just a little bit. It’s not that important but just to let them know that I can shoot from that distance and just really my ball-handling and I can play physical.”

Q. What position do you think you will best project to in the NBA?
A. “I think the three. Later on down the line maybe the four.”

Q. Obviously this is a team that runs and likes to shoot. ...
A. “I love that. That’s what I do. I excel in the open floor in pushing the ball and all of that. I think it would be a great fit if I do wind up here.”

Q. Is there a player that you would compare your game to in the league right now?
A. “A mixture between Tayshaun Prince and Kevin Garnett.”

Q. Garnett turned out pretty good..
A. “Oh, yeah.”

Q. Was there a moment, a game, where you figured out, “Ok, I’m ready to go onto the NBA?’
A. “Probably, maybe that second time we played Alabama at our house. The game was coming a lot more easier.”

Q. What kind of feedback have you gotten from teams you’ve worked out with as far as what parts of your game are NBA ready and what parts need work?
A. “I haven’t really heard anything like that. They said that I was a great player, they liked the way I played and my versatility so I’m hearing good things.”
