Anthony had the latest in his series of individual workouts yesterday, this time with the Memphis Grizzlies who hold the number 5 pick. Check out highlights from the workouts and Q and A with the Grizzlies.
How does the work level here compare to college?
It’s a lot more intense. I mean, this is the highest level you can play at and be at. You never can prepare yourself for this. You can try to, which is what we’ve all been doing since we’ve been out of school. The only thing that you can do is prepare and hope you are ready.
People have talked about you as an “upside” guy. What does that word mean to you?
I just think it means that I have a lot of potential, that I can potentially be a great player. I just want to work hard, play basketball and have fun. Hopefully, I’ll be good enough.
Should the Grizzlies take you with the fifth overall pick and if so, why?
I’m a great competitor. I’m a great player. I want to win. Whatever team I go to I plan on winning a championship and I plan on being there my whole career.
What position would you play?
I think right now I’d be a three (small forward), and on down the line I would be a three-four (power forward) combo.
What do you think of the comparisons between yourself and Chris Bosh?
That’s a good guy to be compared to. He’s a great player, an All-Star player. I just hope I can just get up to that level and probably, hopefully pass him one day.
A lot of people here in Memphis are leery of you because you’re from LSU and we had Stromile Swift, who didn’t really pan out. Is it fair for people to compare you to Stromile?
I’m Anthony Randolph. I’m not Stromile Swift or anyone else who came from LSU. I know whatever team I go to, that organization is going to get a hard-working player who loves to play the game.
It looks like you can shoot it from the outside. Do you feel like you’re versatile?
Oh yeah, I’ve been working on that a lot with my trainers and coaches. I’ve been working on my NBA three-point range, my mid-range and my ball-handling so that I can be an effective player inside and outside.
